- GoPro Hero 3 White (v3.07) (thanks to Jacob).
- GoPro Hero 3 Silver (v3.02).
- GoPro Hero 3 Black (v3.03).
- GoPro Hero 3+ Silver (v3.10).
- GoPro Hero 3+ Black (v3.11).
- GoPro Hero 4 Silver (v02.00.00).
- GoPro Hero 4 Black (v02.00.00).
(files latest as of 5 April 2015).
How to Guide:
- Download the file for your specific GoPro model (the list of files is above).
- Insert the microSD card into your computer (using a microSD to SD adaptor or microSD to USB adaptor). NOTE: The microSD card does NOT need to be formatted, you can keep your current recordings on the card.
- Unzip the file on your computer.
- Copy the files to the microSD card.
- For the GoPro Hero 3+ and Hero 4, the files need to be in a folder called "UPDATE". Make sure you copy the folder to the card. It will not work if the files are not in the UPDATE folder.
- For the GoPro Hero 3, the files need to be in the root directory of the card, NOT in a folder. Copy the files directly to your card, not in a folder. It will not work if the files are in a folder.
- Eject the microSD card from your computer.
- Insert the card into your GoPro whilst the camera is off.
- Turn on the GoPro, it will come up with a screen saying it is updating, and turn itself off when complete.
- Your GoPro is now reset to with the latest software version and the WiFi password is also reset to "goprohero"

In the case of my Hero 3 black i added a capital G and a 1 to the password so it reads "Goprohero1" and i both copied to the rooth of the SD and also made a folder tittled "UPDATE"
Thank you so much for making this. It helped me through a frustrating situation and I appreciate the effort that you put in to help. Much obliged.
AMAZING!!!! Thanks so much. Worked great on both my cameras that I was locked out of (once I noticed one was a black and one was a silver)....
Im going to write my tough experience with updating my Hero 3 White with version 0.7 or 0.07.
Every updating attempt ended up failed.
Worked with new 64gb sd card with UHS-1, with update from this website with changed BIN file names to WF3.01-app.bin and 2nd one to HD3.01-firmware.bin < very important. Then it worked.
I've updated my Hero 4s from on my omni from 2.5 to 5.00 firmware thinking it would get better footage for my 360 videos and now they're not working with my omni rig.
Does anyone you know if there is a way to download the array system on this firmware or should I look into reverting back to the old firmware.
I am sorry but i did everything like you said and my hero3+ silver still doesnt rebot , i lost my password and i cannot change
Hello, there will be a solution for when you update without changing the Wi-Fi password, I am left with Goprohero and the Quilk application does not allow me to log in with that password. Help me!!!!
I get the Wi-Fi failed to update after all this. How do you fix that?
this was my problem! thanks for your comment. Finally can reset wifi password. I don't know why this is not mentioned anywhere
Thank you very much Owen. It worked great and very easy. I searched a lot and nothing worked. I was able to set a personal pass by modifying the settings.ini file script
For my GoPro hero 3 black, I found something that worked for me with the new ironically named "quick" app.
I followed Tims instructions but ended up with a failed update.
First i ran the update unchanged on my gopro. Resetting the password to the default "goprohero"
(This password won't work on the new Quick app for some inane reason)
Then I opened the settings.in file in a text edit program on my computer and changed the first line to: "current_password":"goprohero"
And changed the "password":"goprohero" to my desired password (i think it has to contain a number)
Then I ran the update again and it worked. Hope this might help some frustrated owners.
Was pulling my hair out trying to use GoPro's update steps (completely wrong for the 3) on my old Hero3 Silver. This worked except for connecting back to Quick. Read the comments & found the solution to change the PW in the "settings.in" file, good to go now. Apparently the new version if Quick requires at least 1 number in the PW... Please update the instructions above to include this information, will save others much time & stress ;-).
Side note, thanks for taking the time to put this up for us older hero users.
Follow all this method and if it doesnt work try downgrading to old version of gopro app(quik now) speaking from experience and hope this helps.
it didnt work no matter what i try. i've done the pages instructions, the yt instructions, these instructions, nothing works.
hi all ! thank you very much ! it works , you only need to change the username, password in the notepad , and change in the update 1 to -1. best regards, Zoli from Transilvania
Mine updated but wifi network name did not return to default and neither did my password. thoughts?
Tim you are a godsend. Thank you so much.
Nearing "nervous breakdown"! HELP pleaaaase!
Did everything as suggested - and (for the first time!): It worked!
Cam (3+ silver) accepted "update" and seemed to install it.
Me: Happy!
Next i tried to connect to the Quick App just to receive the information that password "needs to have one numerical" character - simply entering "goprohero" did NOT work.
So, I read up in the comments and found the suggestion to edit the "settings.in" file.
Cool!
Did that, saved it, re-inserted SD => nothing happens!
Checked the newly saved "settings.in" file (did the editing in the "editor") - tried EVERY option to save with different PWD (just an addl "1" at the end) - but after saving it, and reopening (just to check) it still showed the "goprohero" (without the additional "1" I had entered)
Tried to completely change it and save with "unicode", UTF-9, and whatever other option I am offered, .... but NOTHING worked!
So: HELP! Please! ...or can you alter the download-files offered to already include a PWD as demanded by Quick including one numerical characcter?
I referenced your blog and added the part on how to get the GoPro to work with the latest version of GoPro Quik: https://www.alanbonnici.com...
Massive Thank you🙏 & a hugh round of applause 👏👏👏👏👏Bravo Owen McCrink Bravo🥳🥳cuz I've been tryn to reset wifi pw offgrid w/o desktop/laptop for a hot min...finally found a link for this tutorial that actually works 👏👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳🥳
A true diamond in the rough. After spending two days trying to figure this out the directions here solved connecting Quik to my old GoPro HERO 3+. I also think removing the battery prior to inserting the SD card helped. Thanks!
The camera needs to reformat the SD card. Use the menu as follows:
Settings ->Delete (trash can)->All (format)->Delete All->Yes->Exit
When the menu cycles back to the video recording screen, your SD card will now be usable.
Hope this helps
Got it ;)
I´ve done like you told, so i could reset my Password & start the Update. Thank you very much :)
Go to the file right click on the file, the choose open with "Notepad". Follow the instructions below and you will do fine. :)

Hello all,
i try to Update my Hero3, because i can´t connect with my Android Phone. After a long long search, i found this Site. I download the Zip for my Cam, unzip it on my Laptop & done everything like wrote down there. But i can´t open the "Update" Folder on my Laptop. I´m using Windows 11. I found YouTube Video, where he showed how to open this Folder, but it don´t work like he shows there. Any suggestions how i can open this Folder & how i can Update my Camera?
So clear, I had watched a lot of youtube that felt way to dodgy. this was the first solution that recognised that goPro stopped supporting the older cameras. Those downloads are gems.
You saved a little bit more space in the landfill.
So I got my old Hero 3 White to read and attempt to use the update provided here which is more than I've been able to do with the official download from the GoPro site which fails straight away. But after running it 3 times (the update gets to 100% then shuts itself down) my camera still says it's on 3.00 when I start it up.
The RTC battery is long dead, could this have any bearing on it? Perhaps the same reason why my attempts to update it from the Quik app keep failing because apparently my empty 64G SD card doesn't have enough space!
Thanks, after much struggling to reset my forgotten wifi credentials on a go-pro hero3 I found this site and am now very happy!
Tim, you BEAUTIFUL BASTARD! This worked for me. You don't understand the pain and suffering I went through trying to get this fixed for HOURS, taking week-long breaks, returning to it, etc. Thank you!!!
I bought a hero3 its silver but the serial number inside has a w..
download the GoPro Hero 3 White (v3.07) version and do the same don't save it inside the update file.
you can change the wifi at settings
Jesus Christ this took WAY too long to get working. GoPro's own latest "11" firmware wouldn't work no matter how many times I tried. I threw your files in and it updated on the first try. Thank you for this post.
Thanks to Owen et al . . Wasn't easy but following the various tips I just got my Hero3
+ black to connect to Quik . . I had to do at least 2 re-boots and re-installs of Owen's software and reinstalling Quik on my A.ndroid.... At one point I managed to get the camera installed on to Quik, but the password failed . . .I had to delete the camera at least twice and then Voila!! my picture appeared...Off for a beer!!!

Finally cracked this problem with the advice from this page! I was struggling to update my GP Hero 3+ Silver, and then by fluke discovered if you install the update files on the SD card, insert it without the battery inserted, then insert the battery, the update works. Thank you so much!
I have opened the settings.in but there isn't any reference to password...also the file is "._settings.in". All four files are preceeced with an underscore.
There is are references to a folder - MACOSH...I am using a windows laptop and an android phone. . .
Hi...
i have a Hero 3+ Black edition that I haven't used for some time. I cannot get it to connect to "Quik" to my android phone on wifi. Gopro could not help saying that they no longer support that product...
I found this site and downloaded the Hero 3+ black v3.11.
All went well and the camera accepted the update, but when I tried to connect to quick the password "goprohero" did not work, and I had a message in red saying that the camera name must be at lease 1 character, and then what the password should consist of - eight charters etc...
Can anyone help me please . . .??
I tried this but I get SD ERR every time I put the SD card back in. Any thoughts?
After posting I decided to experiment. I changed my power usage setting on my phone. I used them on a trip this past week and worked without issues. I paired my three cameras and switched between them easily. Maybe the problem was my phone in power save mode affecting Wi-Fi time out limits or location usage(?).
Yeah, happened the same... Took few runs and several redos (because when it doesn't work, we always believe the problem is with us... lol)
It worked after few updates and attempts.
I'm using the Quik app. I had the same issue. I could connect a Hero+ without a problem. The two Hero 3 cameras would not connect at first. So I used the firmware and reset option that was mentioned in the comments. My phone would not connect to either Hero 3. So I quit for the evening and didn't have a chance to try again for two days. Then both of then just worked fine. I didn't do anything else to the GoPro 3s after the update and Wi-Fi reset. The only thing that changed was I power cycled my phone those two nights. I always turn it off in the evening . I don't know what changed, I didn't seem to get an update to the Quik app. I'm using whatever version is in the Play store, on my LG Velvet with Android 11.
Hey Gaijin, I managed to get the update and apparently the wifi settings changed properly...
thing is... now I have no idea if the App available in Nov 2022 is still good to go.
I only find the one called Quik, once I ask to connect to GoPro, it asks the wifi password, I enter the same I set up, it goes to Wireless available and no WiFi shows up in the App list (although the goprohero wifi is accessible and password works if I connect directly using the android settings).
Are you using this "Quik" app as well?
You made my day!!!! :)
Thanks a lot!!!!
Still useful November 2022. Picked up a couple of hero 3 cameras from a goodwill. Needed flashing as they both were not responding and I had no idea about the wifi password. Boom, now they both work!
make sure to open the file called "system" that the gopro automatically loads onto the sd card and make sure to check your model, i have a hero 3+ and i thought it was the silver edition due to it having a silver front and none of the files for the hero 3+ would work so i checked the system info and it was actually the black edition tried the relevant files and worked right away, hope this helps.
You can edit the files in the zip to set any password you'd like. Just open up the settings.in file in Notepad or similar, edit the ssid and password and save the file.
fantastic that im able to set everything back to original, however the gopro quic app does not like the password 'goprohero' due to there not being any numerical or special characters. is it possible to get this update???
other than that brill work and thank you
It took me 2days, dozens of Websites, Forums ect.to get here.
Glad i found you.
Thx a lot
It's alive!
If anyone has this issue, before updating open the file "settings.in" with notepad and change the line "password":"goprohero" to another password. After this update your GoPro.
When I did this the app allowed me to connect.
Additionally you can open the file "update.cmd" and change "CAMERA:" and "WIFIAPP:" to "-1" (without the quotes). When you do this, the camera will not update but only change the SSID and password.
I hope this helps...
PS: Thanks Owin! You are a
lifeGoPro saverThanks so much Owen for having a link to the actual update file because I tried every which way to get the download from the GoPro site and it just wouldn't become available for download. But now that I have updated the wifi and firmware on the camera, I can't log on to the camera with the Quik app using the default password "goprohero". I even tried the original password of "beahero123" and that won't work either. I am glad that I was able to upgrade the firmware and get the wifi back to the default on the camera, but I still wish I could connect my phone to the camera using the Quik app. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. This is my husband's camera and I have been working on this for over 4 hours now. You have already been a blessing to several from reading the many posts!! Thanks again and may you be blessed as well.
Thank you so much! Bought a Hero3 White from facebook and the seller didn't include the correct USB cable. I have one with the right attachment, but it doesn't show my camera on my Mac. Because of this, I couldn't advance on the GoPro website. Took me a second to reread your instructions about NOT having the files in a folder on the card, but we got there. Your info is still going strong in 2022. -Ellie
reset worked, but when I try to connect to Quik, the app says that the password cannot be "goprohero"...how to solve that?
Not sure yet, but am definitely glad that I stumbled across this site; now I will try to update a Hero3+; so far, the regulation process has gotten nowhere. Not sure if I am perceiving correctly, but directions at Gopro indicate an "update.cmd" file, which is not present in their actual update downloads. So I will try to figure it out, but, regardless, I will come back to make known what I did/did not resolve.
don't work on my hero3+silver...nothing happened when th gopro turn on even if the files are in update folder
dont' work for me....when my gopro hero3+ turn on....nothing happen.....(even if files are in update folder...)
Great work! The file FROM GoPro did nothing. Your file had me up and running in 2 minutes.
Thank you!!! Impossible to generate a new wifi password on the gopro webstite, YOU ARE THE TRUE HERO!!
I downloaded and 3.11 for my hero 3 + black, updated right, but then when I called on the front display it appeared as if the version was 3.00, could you tell me why?
Oct 2020, and this is the Still the best solution.
GoPro Hero 4 with error "we can't find your gopro"
After repeatedly trying these directions. https://community.gopro.com...
Found your link. Worked. Then updated via GoPro app to latest firmware.
Please can somebody tell me if the Gopro hero3 Silver is FPV capable, I've loaded variious firmwares, I'm just not getting the GP# to get into FPV mode, any ideas please?
How??
Does anyone have a firmware version older that 3.x for Hero 3 White? I need to back rev it to work with my DJI Phantom 2 FPV. Thank you.
You are quite possibly the coolest human being on this late Sunday evening Sir:)-I spent the entire afternoon trying to make this work, with no success, using the GoPro site files, and was able to do it only using your files. Thanks! -C.L.
Purchased Hero 3 White from a friend and it sat for the last 4 years. going to Maui so trying to connect to phone with blocked wifi password. Tried to update with GoPro support. Bought a sandisk supreme plus, still no luck gets stuck on "updating" with red flashing. Found your page downloaded fresh firmware after re-format of disk, and followed directions and still stuck on updating with flashing red. any suggestions?
i find the update to be as frustrating a procedure as can be. No progress made.
Hey…. thanks for the updates! But my GoPro3 Silver still not updating… i tryed all 3 of the different versions, but no one was able to update the cam…. damn sh**… its just flashes like a disco…. i turned the wifi off, power off… put the sd card inside…. power on …. camera update failed… mhm :-/ any ideas?

hola gracias! anduvo la actualizacion pero el wifi sigue sin funcional alguna idea?
Hi Kevin, thanks for letting me know that GoPro is referring people directly here, hilarious! Owen
Thanks for the tip - I did try after some time and FINALLY was able to connect! The iPhone software then successfully updated back to the latest software and I have WiFi access again!
Interestingly enough after the first agent I chatted with tried to tell me since my SD card wasn't on the supported list that was the problem - the second one pointed me here directly. It appears their solution to the issue is to refer to this page.
Hi Kevin,
I had a similar experience.
I left the phone overnight and tried again the following morning and it immediately prompted for the password. I used the "goprohero" password and was then able to connect. I then used the GoPro app to change/reset the SSID and password....
I am guessing that there is possibly some kind of network caching happening in the phone handset as I've seen similar issues with other networks. I'd try leaving it for 12-24 hours and then try to connect once more using the "connect a camera" function in the GoPro app.
I have a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver I am trying to reset the WiFi on - Of course the files from GoPro do not work but these do - sort of... They update the firmware correctly and they reset the WiFi to GoProHero - but my iPhone just spins when trying to connect to the GoProHero WiFi. I never get a password prompt. It's close but not working yet.
Any thoughts?
They are useless at GoPro! Glad to help.
Owen,
You are awesome!! Thank you so very much.
I took my (3 year old and until now unused) Hero 3+ silver out of its box for the first time and thought to myself, I should update the firmware - Huge mistake.
2 hours on the phone with Go Pro support yesterday - end result? "Must be a hardware fault" and an offer to return my camera in exchange for a 20% discount on a replacement!
What occurs to me is that if I was able to find this blog in under 3 hours of looking for a solution and solve my issue, those fuckers at Go Pro must be incompetent at the very least, more likely quite immoral and unethical in their efforts to sell replacement camera's.
After this experience with Go Pro, I will never again buy a Go Pro product, which is sad because it appears to be a great device. However, given this experience, I'd buy a Go Pro knock off for 20% of the cost of the Go Pro device from here on in - Never again will I support Go Pro,
this firmware worked unlike go pros page. Thanks a Ton!!
Got these files years ago. So not sure mate.
I am confused you are stating for Hero 3+ V.3.10 but the GoPro pages says this is the latest:
Quote: "HERO3+ Silver Edition v03.02 | September 2, 2015"
Where did you receive a newer one than what GoPro is offering?
Thks
So after a frustrating bloody 2 hours you are a saviour!!!!! Thank you so much and I totally appreciate your time on this!! Yeeeew now to play!
Pretty sure this firmware is fine. Many happy users of it!
omg! thank u so much for this link! i've been trying for so long!!!
Hi
I have a GP Hero3+ silver. I've already tried every possible step of trying to upgrade the camera. It just doesn't happen. I copied the upgrade files from your site, from gopros official site but it just doesn't start.
I copied the UPDATE folder in the card and inserted it into the camera, but when I switch it on the camera starts like normal instead of the update taking place. I copied just the 4 files as well and tried. It just doesn't happen. Please help.
No, the _MACOSX folder is a metadata folder, created by, you guessed it - Mac OSX. Ignore it.
"they not even say files must be in folder "UPDATE" - EXACTLY, what sheer incompetence from GoPro's website maintenance and tech support team. Go fuck yourselves with a spiked bat, you assholes at GoPro. Good luck to everyone else trying to deal with wilful ignorance from these assholes. They weren't born in a mud hut in Africa with constant war and no change at an education, so what's their fucking excuse for this b.s. then?
GoPro website is run by a bunch of drunken fucktards by the look of it. Fuck GoPro. This site gives the correct instructions for a firmware update. Following the OFFICIAL ones, I was confused - and I'm a highly-experienced IT Engineer. The OFFICIAL instructions are just shit. The site maintainer is a moron, and GoPro are control-freaks (otherwise why bother making people give an email and password, just to download the firmware. My mp3 player manufacturer doesn't - and they're the market leader and even though they're not perfect, they have nowhere near as much bad karma as GoPro have). Oh, but the logo is sexy and the new bloatware software (WHERE is the link to past versions for people who do NOT have Core i3 or Core i5 PCs, for example, it doesn't HURT, to keep a link to it, GoPro control freaks!) GoPro have made me pissed.
Yeah DO NOT TRUST SOME RANDOM FIRMWARE OFF THE INTERNET, PEOPLE. This is a spying-tool if used in the wrong hands. OR CAN INFECT YOUR DEVICES WITH BADUSB (Google it: BADUSB ).
Much more help then GroPro's site, it worked
Hi! I have the Hero 3+ Black model. When I unzip the update on this site I have two folders: UPDATE and _MACOSX. Do I copy both folders to the SD card and then put it into the camera? Thanks
for GoPro Hero 3 Black (NOT HERO3+)
Copy the files to the ROOT of the sdCard. Forget everything about an UPDATE folder.
I repeat: copy to the ROOT of the sdCard
The nightmare is finally over!
oh my i can kiss you it works
YOU ARE GOPRO GOD
I followed all of the steps as outlined by other users with no luck. I came across someone who said that you have to create a folder in your SD card labeled UPDATE and drag the update files into that folder on your SD card. Worked like a charm!
Nice one Jacob. I'll add it to the list so the others can find it easily.
Here's the latest version of the GoPro Hero 3 White Edition firmware and wifi update. Camera says version 3.07 despite neither package in the folder being that version.
https://file.io/F3ZNEu
Just found out that when you're updating a White edition, you have to change the names of the update in the silver 3 edition, into WD03.01 instead of .02.
Very crazy indeed. When I wanted to update with the silverversion I got an error message, but by changing the name my gopro went into update mode.
all lower case goprohero
File worked great. Once I unzipped the file above for gopro 3+ silver, I copied the "Update" folder from within the unzipped file and it worked perfectly after multiple attempts on gopro site. Don't rename any file, just copy the UPDATE file to camera. Thanks Owen!
Question, update worked for me. I forgot my original Wifi Password. Since the update the wifi name was changed to GoProHero but the password will not work. Is there something else I should be doing? Perhaps I'm entering the wrong password yet again! Please help!!! Thanks!
GoProHero3+
GoPro shame on you. I try download updates from gopro website ... no luck, all files don't work, they not even say files must be in folder "UPDATE". Without your files I will not setup again my GoPro. Thanks
we can't find your gopro, lets try again...i try with another device but still with same problem,,,thanks
I have the exact same problem. Did you figure it out yet ?
Hi Owen, For some reason, the update for my Hero3 doesn't work... I'm following every step here. New microsd card, not putting the update files in any folder of the card... When I eject my GoPro and turn it on, I see that it tries to update, but after 2 seconds, its saying "Camera Update Failed" :(
I'm desperate. My trip to China is in 6 days and I can't make this camera work with the latest mobile app version...
Please Help me !!
Hello
inquiring about old 3+ hero works fine owned since new but drops in and out of video when trying to film was going to give it to my son to make vids for school projects but want to make sure it works fine can you help with where to start.
From a bunch of attempts I've only got one update.zip file from the GoPro website. Basically I think they don't care much about the older versions. Anyway your site had just what I needed, without all the junk. Thanks a heap!
I COULD SERIOUSLY KISS YOU RIGHT NOW!!! IVE BEEN HAVING A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE TRYING AND FAILING TO UPDATE AND CHANGE THE WIFI SETTING ON A RECENTLY BOUGHT SECOND HAND GOPRO HERO3+. CAME ACROSS YOUR LINK AND ITS WORKED!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I WILL NOW HAVE A VERY HAPPY 13 YEAR OLD NEXT WEDNESDAY ON HIS BIRTHDAY, I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK ID BOUGHT A DUD! X
Thanks, the link to firmware for Hero3 on GoPro's website was not working.
Was able to update using your file.
The hero 3 black update doesn't seem to work on my camera. Following all instructions, but it just turns on normal. Any suggestions?
After 1 week waiting for GoPro Support your video did the trick Cannot thank you enough. I am on a month diving vacation and my memories are done on my GoPro.
I've only ever dealt with one white. I'm pretty sure just used the Silver software. Either way, pretty sure you can't brick it using the wrong firmware. Good luck!
Is your SD card wiped?
Loving your work Owen!
What are the chances that either the silver or black update will enable a Hero3 White?
Can not update my 3+ Black. Cannot download from the GoPro site. Found your site and installed the files on the card. It will not update with the files in the root drive or in a folder
Sorry I do not have the White firmware. If anyone does have it, send it my way and I'll upload here!
Do you have firmware for go pro 3 white edition?
geniuuuus. I am from Brazil and I was trying download from Gopro website and it wasn't available. Someone put this link and I've followed all steps and.... WOOOOOOORKS!
LOVE YOU.
Thank you. Updating on the website failed. Now my hero 3 is on new firmware again
my wifi is fine I just want to update to v3.0 so the app features work better
My Hero 3 Silver will not update no matter what I try :-(
Neither the GoPro instructions nor the ones here, it would seem the GoPro installation gets "further" in that it seems to install it, however it keeps saying that it is at V3.0 and requires an update. Also tried it via the smartphone app but it fails when trying to apply the update.
Frustrating - I hate being beaten by technology lol
I was having issues getting the download to start as well. I noticed on my SD card there were two other folders that I believe were downloaded when I tried to use the App. I deleted everything from my SD card and then added the files for the update. Once I did this and put the SD card in my GoPro Hero3+ SIlver edition it started the update immediately and I was able to update the software and reset the wifi password. Hope that helps.
Thank you for posting this! I was having NO luck with updating my Hero 3+ through the GoPro website.
What version was your GoPro before the update?
MY GO PRO DID NOT WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE WIFI CHANGE FILE, ONLY RECOGNIZES THE UPDATE, AND PROBLEM SOLVED! THANKS
Hi Owen,
I tried the same that Dean mentioned in february but my go pro hero3+ (silver) was updated to version 2.0. Did the full update.
It worked great for me. Thank you
Once updated you can delete the files from the card.
Can I delete all the files (firmware.bin and app.bin) that I pulled to the SD card for the update after the update is complete or do I need to leave those on the SD card?
On gopro's website the latest filware for hero 3+ silver is v03.02, on your site is v3.10. Is this a genuine firmware or a modified one?
Did you use the Wifi password reset files? Or the full update?
I downloaded the GP H3+ Silver v3.10 as listed above and it took it to v 2.0
Any Idea
worked great for me. copied across while on the gopro then reset and works great. very happy
Glad it was helpful!
thanks man, u save my gopro.. some man sold me his gopro without giving me the wifi password, when i requesting the password he just said he's forgot it.
Yes, you can delete it after the update.
The update works so thank you!!! But can i delete the folder 'Update' from the Gopro after I'm done?
I just installed the update and the app works with the camera as long I don't follow the instruction telling me to update it with the app. But I still have problems with t he connection when I try to charge the gopro hero 3+ black via the usb cable on my laptop. The light turns on for 5 sec and then it turns off again. If I turn on the camera it shows me the usb-symbol and it looks like it is charging, but it is actually not :(
hey I try it but it dident work on my gopro 3 + ... any idea? still have the wifi problem?
My GoPro (3) ihas 3.0 firmware. It fails any attempt of update, any clue?
Hi Owen,
firstly I commend you for replying to the many who were either successful or not.
'Wireless settings update failed' is Mr. Consistent here in all attempts. Yip I've formatted my sd card numerous times [even replaced with a brand spanking new one]. Hard reset H3+B etc
The gopro functions except 'wifi - gopro app' is non existent.
I even did a firmware downgrade: https://www.youtube.com/wat... which updated. Then based on the update did 2 extra steps - whether correct or not... come this far so why not try :)
1) Reformat sd card > copied firmware downgrade UPDATE folder in root of sd card >> inserted sd card into gopro >> started >> it updated
2) Reformat sd card > copied firmware downgrade UPDATE folder in root of sd card >> went to H3+B_UPDATE_3.11+WIFI --- UPDATE folder and copy/pasted: settings.in into UPDATE folder on sd card >> inserted sd card into gopro >> started >> it updated
In any UPDATE scenario 'Wireless settings update failed'
So I think I'll use this H3+B just as a wireless cam connected to a small selfie stick using a Nyrius Pro :)
Keep up the good work.
This fixed my HERO3+ Silver.
It was always shutting off when trying to access via USB or WIFI.
What broke it before was the GOPRO Android App which installed the wrong update for a HERO3 and not HERO3+.
Hi I had update my hero 4 silver to 3.0, possible I downgrade back to 2.0?
Cause my hero4 silver can't connect o any device...
Hi Dave, Unfortunately could not figure out the issue. Good luck & let me know if you do find a solution.
I've got the same problem as you Owen. GoPro support said to send it back but it's out of warranty. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? Is it the hardware?
Hi, only use the file for your camera. If you have the Hero 3 Black, use the GoPro Hero 3 Black (v3.03) link above.
Hi Owen will the update of the Hero4 work on a Hero3 Black edition ?
Sorry - the link was broken. It is working now!
file wont open for hero 4 black have you deleted it?
I want v2.00 for black 4 wont open to download?
Hey Frank.
That sucks. But at least you are getting it fixed on warranty! (guessing you can use credit card dispute or similar if they play hard? But then again, Amazon are pretty good).
Have had a GoPro Hero 4 Silver with a similar issue: can't connect it to any device.
Hope you get yours sorted.
I had the same issue with the Wi-Fi update. However this was a brand new Hero3+Silver purchased in an adventure kit. After multiple attempts to update (about 10). Wi-Fi wasn't even recognised by my iPhone5 or my Galaxy Tablet.
During the Update, red led flashes normally for a few second, then stats flashing fasted in different patterns, then the blue led flashs along with the red flash fast together, then both stop and the message comes up that wifi failed updatee and to contact GoPro support.
An hour was spent with support with the end result being please send your camera in.
This is a brand new camera, so I went back to Amazon support. Ya lot of good that does. Waiting for the seller to send me an RMA.
I've copied both folders to my sd card and inserted to the gopro3+ silver whilst off but when I turn it on I get no update, just operation as normal. The other two files will not copy to the sd card Have I missed a step?
Unfortunately don't have the old firmware. Good luck!
do you know how to downgrade firmware on hero 3 black? Maybe do you have older firmware files that v3.03?
minha gopro apresenta esta mensagem , wireless updating failed , ja refiz todos os procediementos , me ajude
Usually just a few minutes. Any luck?
How long did the update take? Mine has been updating for at least 1.5 hours?
Whoop whoop!! Problem solved with the hero 3.
Thanks!!
Is it possible to find out the actual WiFi-Password? Because I just need to know it
It appears it could perhaps be a hardware issue. I have got a GoPro that is refusing to reset the password - the same message you are encountering. Have not experienced this before. It updates software fine, but WiFi no good.
Yes, I think the Update works
Does the update work, and then the wifi fails?
Still the same problem with the folders. When I make a new folder called "UPDATE" with the MACOSX and the UDPATE folder, nothing happens. When I put the MACOSX and the UPDATE folder directly on the SD, it starts the Update, but it still says "Wireles settings update failed" and the WiFi password will not be reseted
